That original $136 investment deserves to be remembered because it represented a vision much larger than the price of two pieces of land. Seven men helped establish a place where Black children could learn, develop confidence and imagine a different future. More than a century and a half later, their example still challenges communities to invest in the next generation. The question is not whether that investment mattered. The question is how many more lives can be changed when today's generation carries that same commitment forward.
